OGDEN, Utah, March 4, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An Ogden man is in serious condition after being hit by a Weber County school bus, police said.

Lt. Nate Cline, of the Ogden City Police Department, said in a prepared statement that a Weber County School District bus struck the 26-year-old man at about 5:30 a.m. Friday near the intersection at 12th Street and Harrison Boulevard. The bus had no passengers at the time of the accident.

“It is believed the injured male was crossing Canyon Road just east of the intersection,” Cline said. “It is unknown at this time if the male was appropriately using the designated crosswalk. The male was struck by the bus as it attempted to complete a left-hand turn from Harrison Boulevard onto Canyon Road.”

The injured male was treated at the scene and transported to a local area hospital.

“He is currently listed in serious condition with reported injuries to his head and shoulder area,” said Cline. “He was conscious and able to communicate. The preliminary investigation revealed the injured male might have been consuming an alcoholic beverage prior to the accident.”

The 69-year-old driver of the school bus is cooperating with the investigation. It does not appear that alcohol was a factor in regard to the bus driver.

No citations have been issued at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

The names of those involved have not been released.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
