RICH COUNTY, Utah, June 29, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — One construction worker is dead and three others are injured after a gust of wind caused multiple roof trusses to collapse.

A statement from the Rich County Sheriff’s Office says that at 11:02 a.m. Monday, a text came to dispatch reporting a construction worker was trapped beneath roof trusses at a cabin under construction in the Wasatch Ridge area of Monte Cristo.

“According to the preliminary investigation, construction contractors were installing roof trusses when a sudden gust of wind caused multiple trusses to collapse,” the RCSO statement says.

“The collapse knocked two workers from the roof and pinned another worker beneath a truss. One construction worker, a 56-year-old male, died as a result of his injuries. Three additional workers were injured in the incident. A 42-year-old male sustained critical injuries and was transported by air ambulance to a regional hospital. A 29-year-old male was transported by ground ambulance for medical treatment. A fourth injured worker was treated for injuries sustained during the incident.”

Emergency medical personnel from Woodruff EMS, Randolph EMS, and Weber County responded to the scene. Additional assistance was provided by the Utah Department of Natural Resources, the Rich County Sheriff’s Office, and the Weber County Sheriff’s Office, the statement says.

“The Rich County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and coworkers of the deceased, as well as to all those affected by this tragic accident. We appreciate the efforts of all first responders and those who assisted at the scene.”
