WEBER COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 23, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — One person is dead after a head-on collision in Ogden Canyon Wednesday, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The crash happened near mile marker 10 of State Route 39 at about 1:50 p.m., UHP Cpl. Michael Gordon told Gephardt Daily.

A westbound vehicle tried to pass the vehicle ahead of it in its lane, and after entering the eastbound lane, hit an eastbound vehicle head on, Gordon said.

The driver of the westbound vehicle that initiated the pass is the person who died, Gordon said. The eastbound driver who was struck suffered relatively minor injuries, he said.

The roadway remained closed as of 4:45 p.m., and drivers were asked to find alternate routes. Gordon said he did not have enough information to speculate when the road might reopen.
