PARK CITY, Utah, April 14, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Park City resident Wyatt Pike unexpectedly quit “American Idol” after being touted as one of the early favorites by judges of the singing competition.
Pike, 20, earned a spot in the season’s top 16 on Sunday night and then made it into the top 12, host Ryan Seacrest said on Monday’s episode.
Seacrest added: “Before we get to the results, I have to tell you that finalist Wyatt Pike will not be competing in the competition. He had to drop out, but we wish him the very best.”
No other details were immediately revealed; a representative for “American Idol” told People magazine: “Wyatt could not continue due to personal reasons.”
One week ago, Pike posted a photograph of Park City on his Instagram page, captioned: “Something to feel this through: home. Thankful for the rollercoaster I’m on today.”
Pike’s last performance on the show was “Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon.
After the performance, judge Katy Perry said: “I think you do have a little bit of an angle in this competition that you’re an authentic singer-songwriter. I think whatever happens, you’re it.”
Judge Lionel Richie added: “You have a style on stage that we like to watch. And to watch you take that song and make it your song, you’re on your way to something big, my friend.”
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
