OREM, Utah, Nov. 9, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A passenger steered a Greyhound bus to safety Friday morning in Orem after the driver became incapacitated.
At about 7:15 a.m., a Utah Highway Patrol officer was doing a traffic stop on Interstate 15, near milepost 270, when the Greyhound bus pulled to the side of the road, making a minor contact with a wall.
“A passenger approached the trooper and told him that the bus driver was having a medical condition and passing out,” a UHP statement says. “A passenger had to take control of the bus to pull it to the side and stop it.
“The bus made slight contact with the wall on the left side. No injuries occurred from the crash. The bus driver was transported to the hospital due to the medical condition.”
The cause of the driver’s impairment is not yet known. According to passenger accounts, the driver had been steering erratically for quite a while. UHP investigators are evaluating the incident.
