PLAIN CITY, Utah, Sept. 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Police have one man in custody after they say he fired a pellet gun through a glass storm door of a home in Plain City, aiming for the homeowner inside.
Deputies were dispatched Friday at 12:58 a.m. to a report of a shooting in the 5000 West block of 1500 North, Plain City, said Lt. Nate Hutchinson, Weber County Sheriff’s Office.
“A homeowner had awoken to a noise in the front of his home,” Hutchinson stated in a news release. “When he opened his front door to investigate he saw an unknown male standing in his driveway.
“The homeowner called out to the male, when the male suspect turned and fired a gun at the homeowner. This caused the glass storm door to shatter. The homeowner fell to the floor suffering minor cuts from the broken glass.”
Deputies were on patrol nearby when the call was dispatched. As they arrived, a suspicious vehicle was observed leaving the area. Officers stopped the vehicle and gathered information before releasing the driver.
“As deputies arrived on scene they found that the homeowner’s car tires had been slashed as well as the car windows had been shattered,” Hutchinson said. “Several windows of the home and the glass storm door were also broken. The total damage exceeded several thousand dollars.”
As the case was investigated it was determined that the firearm used was actually a pellet gun.
As deputies investigated the incident they learned that the homeowner has had prior problems with a man named Jeremy Wilson. Deputies recognized Wilson as the person that was in the suspicious vehicle that had been stopped leaving the scene. Deputies were able to track down Wilson and take him into custody.
Evidence was uncovered linking Wilson to the damage.
Wilson was arrested and booked into the Weber County Correctional Facility on charges of aggravated assault, felony criminal mischief and child endangerment, since there were children in the home at the time of the incident.
