SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 20, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people believed involved in a fatal shooting in a Salt Lake City hotel room Monday were taken into custody more than 200 miles away, in Sweetwater County, Wyoming.
The investigation began at SpringHill Suites by Marriott, 625 S. 300 West, at 6:37 a.m., minutes before dawn. Officers entered a guest room, and found one person who had been shot, said Salt Lake City Police Detective Michael Ruff, at a news conference.
“Officers entered the room and found a man dead inside,” Ruff said.
“Early in their investigation, detectives identified a suspect vehicle,” Ruff said in an update released at 3:22 p.m. “Detectives learned the suspect vehicle was possibly in western Wyoming. The car was located and stopped by deputies with the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office. Two people in the car were taken into custody.”
Homicide detectives will travel to Wyoming to continue their investigation and begin the extradition process, the Salt Lake City Police update says.
