SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 15, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who appeared to be in a drug-induced state of delirium was transported to the hospital Sunday night after he entered a stranger’s home.
Salt Lake City Police Lt. Gary Trost said officers were alerted by more than one call expressing concern about the man wandering around the 900 block of Princeton Avenue.
“He was tripping on something, having a bad reaction,” Trost told Gephardt Daily. “He went into someone’s house and didn’t know the person — he called him by some other name.”
The man was combative and in a state of “excited delirium,” Trost said, adding that the man’s behavior could also indicate the presence of a mental illness.
Trost said that, although drug overdoses are more common, he has seen several cases in which an individual has a bad reaction to a drug and exhibits the same symptoms, including combativeness and delirium, as this man did.
It isn’t known yet what charges, if any, will be filed in this case. Police were still working to identify the man late Sunday night.
