KEARNS, Utah, July 30, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Kearns woman called 911 Tuesday morning after running out of gas while driving her ex-husband to the hospital because she had shot him in the leg, officials said.
Officials responded to the call just after 7 a.m. to the area of 2900 S. 5600 West in West Valley City, Unified Police Authority spokesman Detective Ken Hansen told Gephardt Daily, and found a 56-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was en route to an area hospital with his 53-year-old ex-wife.
Hansen said the two had passed a couple of hospitals already, but for an unknown reason they did not stop; then they ran out of gas.
The man was transported to an area hospital by ambulance in serious to good condition, Hansen said.
Investigators subsequently determined the shooting occurred at the ex-wife’s home in the area of 5530 W. Trident Drive in Kearns.
Hansen said it appears the incident was a domestic violence situation between the couple, who are divorced but had been living together at the address in Kearns for an unknown amount of time.
After the shooting occurred, the woman helped the man to her vehicle and the two set out for the hospital.
The woman is currently being interviewed by detectives. The sequence of events that led up to the shooting has not been determined at this early stage.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
