SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 14, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 22-year-old man was booked into Salt Lake County Jail on Friday and is facing multiple charges after police say he assaulted his mother with a metal bat and kicked an officer who was putting him in the police car.
Ahmed Muhidin Ahmed reportedly went into his mother’s home, on Mandalay Road in Salt Lake City, by going through a fenced gate and entering the home through the back door.
Ahmed has not lived in the home for about two years, according to a probable cause statement filed in 3rd District Court.
His mother told him he needed to leave and to stop using her address for work.
“I do what I want,” Ahmed said, kicking some of his mother’s belongings, according to the statement.
He then went downstairs, grabbed a metal bat, and walked back upstairs, where his mother and five other children were. The children and his mother ran outside, and Ahmed followed them.
“The A/P (arrested person) began hitting the fence and the mother’s vehicle, breaking the fence and leaving marks on the vehicle,” the statement says. “One of the children and the A/P’s spouse attempted to interdict the A/P from causing further damage or hitting his mother.
“The A/P was able to hit his mother in the back, with the bat, three times. His brother attempted to stop the A/P again when the A/P hit him in the foot, with the bat, causing the child a minor injury.
“At this time, the A/P then kicked his mother in the chest and punched her in the face.”
When police arrived, they handcuffed Ahmed, and as they were putting him in a patrol car, Ahmed kicked at an officer, striking him in the hand.
Ahmed also refused to identify himself to police, the statement says, and officers identified him “through research and family members.”
Ahmed has been charged with:
- Burglary of a dwelling, a second-degree felony
- Aggravated assault, a second-degree felony
- Child abuse/neglect, a class B misdemeanor
- Four counts of commission of domestic violence in the presence of a child, class B misdemeanors
- Assault on a peace officer, a class A misdemeanor
- Failure to disclose identity, a class B misdemeanor
- Criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor
His bail has been set at $25,000.
