TAYLORSVILLE, Utah, March 16, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man in a stolen vehicle escaped police apprehension in Taylorsville early Saturday morning.
Officials are asking area residents to share any surveillance footage that may have captured images of the suspect.
Sgt. Rich Wilson, Unified Police Department, said at the scene that another driver called in a report of a man driving recklessly at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
Police ran the plate provided by the witness, and determined the vehicle had been stolen out of Salt Lake City.
“We were able to get behind the car,” Wilson said at the termination scene, near 1175 W. Atherton Ave.
“It fled, and we did not chase it. Subsequently, it wrecked behind us. The suspect fled on foot.”
Containment was set up, and other agencies, including West Valley City Police, joined in the search, providing canines.
UPD also had canines to help in the search, and a helicopter searched from above, but the suspect got away.
“He had a little bit of a head start,” Wilson said.
The man who fled is believed to have been wearing a dark sweatshirt and jeans, with dark shoes that had white soles. He may have been wearing a knit cap, Wilson said.
