ST. GEORGE, Utah, Dec. 13, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A St. George man has been charged with emergency reporting abuse after police say he texted his sister, stating — falsely — that he had killed his girlfriend, prompting the beginnings of a homicide investigation.

Landon Todd Peterson, 56, was charged with the third-degree felony Friday in Washington County’s 5th District Court.

The incident happened on Jan. 15 of this year, and involved the St. George Police Department, the probable cause statement says.

Peterson texted his sister, making the false claim. His sister, alarmed, called 911 to report the crime.

“Officers were not able to locate (the girlfriend) initially, and began a homicide investigation. (The girlfriend) was eventually located and it was determined that no one had been injured.”

Peterson is not in custody. Court records show a summons to appear in court is proposed, but not yet approved.
