SPRINGVILLE, Utah, March 3, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Officers from the Springville Department of Public Safety have been in touch with a woman they say admitted to stealing a donation jar from a store that was collecting funds for a cancer patient.

Jake’s Brookside, a convenience store, captured the theft on a surveillance camera, and on March 11 posted the recording on its Facebook page.

Several Facebook users left comments saying they knew the identity of the suspect.

Springville officers contacted the woman, who initially said she was at work at the time of the theft, but later admitted taking the jar, according to a statement released by the department. Police have not released the identity of the woman.

Officers are trying to determine how much money may have been in the jar before they consider filing either misdemeanor or felony charges.
