Power cut due to area of Monroe Canyon Fire as ‘safety precaution’

SEVIER COUNTY, Utah, July 30, 2025 (Gephardt Daily) — The power company cooperative that services much of the area around the Monroe Canyon Fire has cut electricity “Due to safety precautions.”

Garkane Energy Cooperative, based in Loa, announced Wednesday that it has “de-energerized our transmission line that feeds Wayne County, Burrville, Koosharem, Antimony, Fish Lake and surrounding areas.

“We are working closely with fire crews to get power restored as quickly as possible. We will continue to update as we get more information.”

The company said it would update its Facebook page every two hours to share any projections of when power will be restored.

The Monroe Canyon Fire was first reported on July 13, near Richfield. Its cause remains under investigation, inciweb.wildfires.gov. The official estimate of acres burned is 36,637 acres, and the fire is believed to be 11% percent contained.

Total personnel assigned to the firefighting effort numbers 1,052.

A Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue wildfire crew recently returned from a 14-day deployment.

“They were assigned to night operations, their duties included fire suppression, structure protection, and assisting with backfiring efforts,” the HVF&R statement says.
