PROVO, Utah, July 6, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — The eyes of the world are on a Utah County courtroom as prosecutors present evidence in day one of the preliminary hearing of Tyler Robinson, the accused killer of conservative political activist Charlie Kirk.
Officials say security has never been higher at the courthouse. Armed officers are positioned on the rooftops near the courthouse entrances.
Kirk was shot on Sept. 10, 2025 as he spoke to outdoor crowds at Utah Valley University, in Orem. He died the same day.
Robinson, now 23, turned himself in to officials in Washington County, where he lived, the next day.
Robinson has not yet entered a plea.
Kirk’s parents and his widow, Erika, are in the courtroom for the preliminary hearing, scheduled for five days, after which the judge will determine if the evidence supports the case going to trial.
Donald Trump Jr. is also in attendance, according to reports.
Day one of the hearing broke for lunch, and has returned.
