SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, April 26, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Edison Elementary School principal Laurie Lacy, put on leave by the Salt Lake City School District during an investigation into inappropriate student punishment techniques, has announced she will resign.

Lacy has said, however, that she will not resign immediately.

The investigation by the Salt Lake City Police Department is ongoing, and the school district and SLCPD have not commented on the nature of the punishment being investigated.

Multiple media reports, citing a source close to the incident, have reported that on April 7, a young boy was punished by being ordered to drop his pants and sit in the corner of the principal’s office while other people were present. The boy reportedly was not wearing underwear.

Officials have not confirmed or denied those reports.
