KANE COUNTY, Utah, June 12, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) – Human remains located on Cedar Mountain on May 27, 2024 are those of Courtney Lynne Townsend, according to a Wednesday afternoon press release posted online by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

The identification was confirmed through dental records by the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office, the press release said.

Townsend had been missing since taking her mother’s car from St. George in November 2023.

The burned out vehicle was ultimately located days later near a campground in Kane County but Townsend was nowhere to be found.

Six months later Townsend’s remains were discovered by investigators after an ATV rider in the Duck Creek Ridge area reported finding clothing alongside the road.

The cause and manner of death has yet to revealed.

This case is still considered an open investigation, the press release said.
