MONTICELLO, Utah, July 21, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A retired San Juan County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Sunday for alleged child sexual abuse dating back at least 20 years.

Grayson W. Redd, 74, of Monticello, was arrested following an investigation into recently disclosed alleged criminal behavior that includes rape of a child and forcible sex abuse of children and minors.

“The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office and County Attorney are dedicated to enforcing the laws, especially in the protection of society’s most vulnerable, against all perpetrators, regardless of employment or social status,” the sheriff’s office stated in a news release.

Due to the nature of the case, Redd’s position in the community and the prolonged duration of the alleged behavior, the sheriff’s office is asking anyone who may have been victimized by the retired deputy to contact the San Juan County attorney victim advocate by email, [email protected], or call the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office at 435-587-2237.

“Even crime victims who are unable or uninterested in pursuing criminal charges against Mr. Redd may qualify for resources from the State of Utah’s Office for Victims of Crime,” according to the sheriff’s office.
