WEST JORDAN, UTAH – November 2, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – A riot that broke out at a youth treatment facility Sunday night ended with multiple arrests and minor injuries.
According to West Jordan Police Sgt. Joe Monson, officers were dispatched to the Copper Hills Youth Center at 5899 West Rivendell Drive on reports of a disturbance, including some juveniles who were acting out. “When our officers arrived, they attempted to gain control of the situation when it escalated out of control and more juveniles joined into the riot,” Monson said.
Monson said 10 juveniles have been arrested and taken to the juvenile detention center on multiple charges of assault, enticing a riot, attempting to disarm a police officer, and disorderly conduct. “We have assigned a detective to complete the investigation and once that is done, it will be determined if more arrests will be made,” Monson said.
According to Monson, there were only minor injuries and all those injured were treated at the scene.
According to their website, the Copper Hills Youth Center is a residential treatment center that specializes in working with adolescents aged 12 through 17 with behavioral, emotional, and mental health disorders.
