HOLLADAY, Utah, Aug. 14, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Two armed robbery suspects led police on a hair-raising chase Wednesday, at least twice the wrong way into rush hour traffic before they were arrested.
Events began at about 5:30 p.m. with Unified Police Department officers responding to a domestic violence call, instead finding a male with a gunshot wound to the arm from a robbery, according to Sgt. Aymee Race, Unified Police public information officer. Police were able to act quickly on the victim’s description of the assailants’ vehicle and began a pursuit from Midvale.
The path led through several cities and the wrong-way on I-215 eastbound into the westbound lanes and later southbound in the northbound lanes of the Van Winkle Expressway, Race said, with police calling off the pursuit.
But a Utah Department of Public Safety helicopter was able to keep tabs on the suspect vehicle, she said, which was finally disabled and stopped at about 5700 South on Van Winkle.
The passenger immediately surrendered but the driver, identified as Maxwell Archibald, 26, fled briefly and was tased and arrested, the sergeant said.
The Midvale to Holladay adventure ended after about 25 minutes just after 6 p.m.
