ROY, Utah, June 18, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Roy City Police responded to Emma Russell Park Monday afternoon after a report of three dogs being aggressive and trying to “get at” a child.
While en route, “officers received multiple calls reporting individuals at the park being bitten by dogs,” says a news release issued by the Roy City PD.
Officers located the three dogs in a westside field where they were attacking horses, the statement says. RCPD officers used a catch pole to try and capture the dogs.
“While doing so, the dogs reportedly attempted to attack officers twice,” the police statement says.
One dog was captured with the catch pole, and a second was stopped and contained after an officer deployed a “bean bag” round.
“The injured dog then ran back to its owner’s nearby home,” the police statement says. “A resident at the home was contacted and assisted officers in locating the third, at-large dog, which they followed back to their home. Officers did confirm all three dogs were being kept at this residence.”
Roy Animal Control, assisted by Riverdale Animal Control, took custody of all three dogs. The injured dog was taken to a nearby animal ER, and the uninjured dogs were taken to the Weber County Animal Shelter for a required 10-day quarantine.
“Our priority is safety of the citizens of Roy City and their freedom to feel safe in public areas and parks,” the Roy City Police statement says. “Dog owners do have a responsibility to ensure their dogs are properly controlled at all times and licensed with Roy City Animal Control.”
