SANDY, Utah, Jan. 8. 2015 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people, including a 14-year-old boy, were taken into police custody early Friday morning, after a neighbor allegedly spotted them burglarizing a vehicle in the 1700 block of Briar Glen Road in Sandy.
According to the Sandy Police Department, officers searching the area found a black Infinity pickup, with two people inside, stuck in a snowbank.
As police were ordering the two from the vehicle, the suspects bolted in opposite directions.
Officers say Patrick Hess, 24, of Murray, was apprehended about 100 yards from the accident site, but a 14-year-old companion managed to get away.
After four hours of searching, the juvenile was captured when officers found him hiding in a back yard of a home miles from the original search site.
Investigators say they ultimately found the teen by following his footprints in the newly fallen snow.
Hess is being held in the Salt Lake County Jail on suspicion of being in possession of a stolen vehicle, vehicle theft and burglary, and being a restricted person in possession of a firearm.
The 14-year-old boy was released to the custody of his mother. It’s unclear if he’ll face criminal charges.
