SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 2, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Two men are in custody after three shots-fired cases were reported in rapid succession early Monday morning to Salt Lake City police.
SLCPD reported, according to a Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office fact sheet, that in the span of one hour, shots were fired in three locations.
• The first was at 2:30 a.m. at a residence near 600 N. Sir Phillip Drive.
• The second was at 3 a.m. at an apartment complex near 1800 West and 400 North. The apartment complex was shot through the front windows and front doors of two apartment units. Eight people were inside the two units, and could have been hit.
• The third was at 3:30 a.m. at a 7-Eleven at 1353 W. Indiana Ave. The convenience store was shot in the front window while the store clerk was standing at the front desk.
A mixture of 9mm and .22 caliber casings were located at the scenes.
Officers responded and investigated all the cases. Video surveillance and witnesses at all three locations recorded a similar suspect vehicle: a white, newer model Fiat hatchback.
At 4:13 a.m. officers located a vehicle matching that description at 894 N. Westpointe Circle; the residence of a possible suspect.
“The officers observed two males sleeping inside the car with a .22 rifle between the passenger’s legs,” said a news release from SLCPD. “Officers were able to remove the rifle before waking up the suspects and take them into custody.”
Officers booked Enrique Millan, 20, and Jose Millan, 19, into jail for nine counts of aggravated assault, 12 counts of discharging a firearm and criminal mischief. Jose Millan was the suspect sleeping in the front passenger seat with the rifle between his legs.
A search of the vehicle also revealed .22 casings, 9mm casings and several BB guns. A 9mm pistol was found in another car also belonging to the suspects.
