SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 1, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police with a SWAT contingent were on the scene of a domestic violence incident late Thursday night, which ended safely after more than three hours.
Residents were first advised of the standoff, at 1925 W. North Temple with a suspect known to police, in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, by the Salt Lake City Police Department shortly after 7 p.m. “We are investigating a domestic violence incident near 1925 West North Temple.
“Officers have a history with the suspect and are attempting to communicate with him to reach a safe resolution. There is no known threat to the community.”
By 11:20 p.m. the department shared on X a safe resolution, stating: “Around 11 p.m., our SWAT officers entered the apartment, under a court-authorized search warrant, engaged in a conversation with the suspect and safely took him into custody.”
At about 8 p.m. the department had advised, “Due to the history with the suspect, we have our SWAT team and crisis negotiators responding.”
By 9 p.m. the department added: “Our SWAT team and crisis negotiators provide patrol officers with additional resources in these situations. The suspect inside has refused to cooperate. He is wanted on new felony charges.”
Initial reports, unconfirmed, said the suspect initially held a woman in the apartment against her will, but she managed to escape.
