ROY, Utah, July 24, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Investigators from multiple agencies responded to the scene of a small plane crash in a Roy neighborhood.

Roy City Police Sgt. Josh Taylor told Gephardt Daily the twin engine aircraft with two people aboard went down Wednesday about 3:55 p.m. in the front yard of a home near 2350 W. 4550 South.

Taylor said the pilot and passenger were injured in the crash. Both were taken to an area hospital by ambulance, but the extent of their injuries was unknown.

Witnesses who were on scene after the incident said the plane appeared to clip a tree before hitting the ground. They also said the pilot and passenger were a man and woman, and while they had to be placed on guerneys before being taken to waiting ambulances, their injuries did not appear to be life threatening.

A control tower recording obtained by Gephardt Daily revealed the Piper aircraft was having “gear issues” for several minutes prior to the crash and was attempting to make an emergency landing when it went down a half-mile southwest of the Ogden Regional Airport.

Investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have been contacted.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
