SR-31 through Huntington Canyon remains closed following avalanche

EMERY COUNTY, Utah, Feb. 19, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — State Route 31 through Huntington Canyon in Emery County remains closed Tuesday after an avalanche.

Emery County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook SR-31 is closed from the intersection of Crandall Canyon Mine to just below Electric Lake after the avalanche Monday afternoon.

Utah Department of Transportation officials were called out to assess the situation and cleanup was expected to begin Tuesday morning.

ECSO posted on Facebook Tuesday: “UDOT advises that before cleanup can begin, further avalanche danger needs to be assessed. It is estimated that the avalanche is 200-plus yards wide. We will update as more information becomes available.”
