MIDVALE, UTAH – September 25, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Unified Police have arrested the man who was driving a stolen vehicle in Midvale when it crashed into a parked utility truck and critically injured the passenger.
According to Unified Police Detective Jared Richardson, the accident happened around 8:30 a.m. Thursday at 6900 South 900 East when John Comly, 32, who was driving a stolen vehicle from Millcreek, veered off to the side of the road and impacted a parked utility truck. “The driver was originally listed in critical condition but was upgraded quickly after arriving at the hospital, ” said Richardson. “The female passenger, a woman in her early 30’s, however, was initially not expected to survive the crash.”
Richardson said the injuries the passenger were so extensive that responders were not certain she would actually make it. “The hospital called and informed our officers that she is now expected to survive but her road to recovery is going to be long and extensive,” said Richardson.
Detectives believe speed was not a factor and are uncertain the exact cause of the crash, however, drugs, drug paraphernalia and a gun were found inside the vehicle.
Police have since taken Comly into custody and booked him into the Salt Lake County Jail on multiple charges. Comly also has outstanding warrants for felony discharge of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a restricted person.
