Suspect arrested in Layton burglary case involving sleeping mother, child

LAYTON, Utah, Nov. 1, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Layton officials have booked a 28-year-old man in connection with a May 4 incident in which he is believed to have an entered a house while a mother and child were sleeping.

Jonathan A. Gonzalez was booked Wednesday on suspicion of:

  • Burglary, a second-degree felony
  • Lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor
  • Lewdness, first or second offense, a class B misdemeanor

A probable cause statement filed by Officer Michael K. Beavers, Layton Police Department, says that during the incident, a male the size and stature of Gonzalez was seen entering the home of the victim, and was seen on a baby monitor while performing a lewd act.

On Oct. 26, police executed a search warrant, and located a pair of shoes and jacket similar to those seen on the baby monitor.

“During the execution of the warrant police called defendant and requested that he return to the home,” the statement says.

“Defendant reported he was about three hours away but would return. Police waited for five hours before clearing the scene.”

A warrant for Gonzalez’s arrest was issued. The Layton City Police Department announced in a Facebook notice Wednesday that Gonzalez had been booked into the Davis County Jail.
