SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Aug. 3, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police officers responded to a report of a robbery that took place a little before 3 p.m. Thursday. The victim was at Intermountain Medical Center being treated for multiple stab wounds.

According to a probable cause statement from Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the victim told police he had been at the drive-up window at Burger King, 3975 W. 4700 South, when he was approached by a man requesting money.

The victim said he offered to buy the man some food, but would not give him money. At that point, the victim reported, the man pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the head and chest area.

The suspect then stole the victim’s cellphone, wallet and cash.

During the struggle, the victim bit the suspect on the arm, the statement says. The suspect fled the scene.

The victim told police the suspect looked like a homeless man who has been staying in a laundry room at his apartment complex

Unified Police went to the apartment complex, on Rockwood Way in West Valley City, and made contact with a man identified as Antonio Moreno, who was in the laundry area.

According to the probable cause statement, Moreno had a lot of blood on his clothing and a bite mark on his right arm. He also matched the physical description the victim had provided.

Moreno was taken into custody. None of the victim’s property was recovered from Moreno.

The statement says that in a post-Miranda interview, Moreno denied being at the Burger King and said he was asleep when police arrived and took him into custody. He mentioned being in a fight, but wouldn’t elaborate. According to the statement, he told the officer his girlfriend bit his arm, and then said he had hurt his arm at work.

“Antonio made a statement stating the other guy is dead, but would not elaborate any further,” according to the reporting officer.

Moreno was booked into jail and faces charges of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; and aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.
