SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, Feb. 3, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A suspect is in custody after leading police on a chase from northern Utah County to South Jordan early Friday morning.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said the pursuit began at approximately 1:50 a.m. when an attempt-to-locate order was issued for a reckless driver in a 2007 Hyundai traveling southbound on Interstate 15.

Royce said a UHP trooper was in the area and spotted the vehicle at the Point of the Mountain. The driver was traveling at approximately 50 mph, and Royce said that generally, when speeds are this low on freeways, and there is no traffic, it either indicates a medical problem or extreme intoxication, though he could not yet confirm whether either was the case in this instance.

The trooper attempted to stop the Hyundai, but the driver continued, exiting the freeway and continuing westbound on 2100 North in Lehi. At this point, UHP was joined by Lehi Police and Utah County Sheriff’s officers in attempting to stop the suspect. The suspect then turned right onto Redwood Road (1700 West), and continued northbound.

An officer from the UCSO stopped the suspect using a PIT maneuver at 11400 S. Redwood Rd., approximately 30 minutes after the chase began.

Nobody was injured in the course of the chase.

The suspect, whose identity is yet to be released, was taken into custody and is in Utah County Jail.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this story as information becomes available.
