WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Oct. 16, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A 25-year-old man was arrested late Tuesday night after leading West Valley City officers in a brief pursuit.
West Valley City Police Sgt. Jake Hill said a detective was in the area of 4200 South when he spotted the suspect in a vehicle that had been stolen out of West Valley City on Thursday.
“The owner had left the car running to warm it up,” Hill told Gephardt Daily.
Officers at first followed the vehicle and then requested assistance from Unified Police Department in setting up spikes.
The driver of the stolen vehicle, identified as William Allen, fled the area and led police on a high-speed pursuit, winding up and down city streets until the car was spiked.
Hill said Allen abandoned the vehicle at 4850 West and took off on foot.
A containment area was set up, and police K9s were brought in to help in the search. Allen was located and taken into custody without incident.
Hill said Allen has a history with the police and now will be facing charges on suspicion of theft of a vehicle, felony fleeing, and possession of narcotics.
