PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, Feb. 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A teacher of autistic children has been charged with multiple crimes against a boy who attends the Pleasant Grove academy where she was formerly employed.
Brooke Armijo, who turned 38 on Saturday, has been charged with four counts of dealing in harmful material to a minor by an adult, a third-degree felony.
A probable cause statement indicates that Armijo, a Draper resident, is accused of sending naked photos and videos of herself to a student at the Spectrum Academy. The statement says the victim is autistic, and is classified as high-functioning.
The four counts are based on messages received between Jan. 4 and 6 of this year, the statement says, adding that the victim was 17 at the time of the incidents, and was one of the students assigned to Armija.
The Spectrum Academy released a prepared statement on Friday:
“Spectrum Academy staff, upon learning of the allegations against Ms. Armijo, immediately notified law enforcement of the information the staff members had received and immediately placed the teacher on administrative leave,” says the message from Brad Nelson, Spectrum Academy director.
“While the school left the matter to law enforcement for further investigation, the teacher has not, at any time since, been allowed to return to the school or have access to students. We can confirm that the teacher is no longer employed by Spectrum.”
