DRAPER, Utah, April 27, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Moving is generally enough of a hassle without having your possessions catch on fire, but that’s what happened to a family Thursday on northbound Interstate 15.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Lawrence Hopper said the driver of the U-Haul truck, who was moving with his family to Utah, told officials he saw smoke in his mirror and initially thought it was coming from the trailer he was pulling.
When he realized the smoke was coming from the U-Haul’s front wheel well, he pulled over and got his two young sons out of the truck.
Hopper said the truck went up in flames and was a total loss. Some of the family’s belongings were saved, he said.
There was no damage to the family’s vehicle or the trailer it was on.
The fire happened at 7:30 p.m. at 14600 South on I-15, and the affected lanes were closed for about two hours, Hopper said.
No one was injured and no other vehicles were involved.
