WEST VALLEY CITY, April 19, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Utah Highway Patrol investigators have made an arrest in the hit-and-run death of a motorcyclist on State Route 201 in West Valley City on Friday morning.
In a statement posted on Twitter Friday night the UHP said:
“The suspect from this morning’s hit and run crash on SR-201 at 2700 West has been caught by our Operation Rio Grande Narcotics Unit. He has been arrested and will be booked into Salt Lake County Metro Jail. A great job done by your Troopers and SBI Agents!”
The deadly crash happened about 3 a.m. on State Route 201 just west of Interstate 215.
Five hours later, investigators remained on scene snarling the morning commute.
Witnesses told Utah Highway Patrol investigators that one or both of the vehicles had been driving aggressively prior to the collision.
“We have a witness who stated he saw both vehicles not maintaining their lane, as well as traveling at a little bit higher rate of speed than the rest of the traffic,” Sgt. Justin Dial, Utah Highway Patrol, said at the scene.
Additional witnesses saw the driver of the car walking away from the scene, Dial said.
The name of the victim has not been released, pending family notification.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this story as information becomes available.

Always saddened to hear of car vs bike accidents… I was one of the very few motorcyclists that did live last year… It did however break my neck and leave me quadriplegic so how lucky was I really ? My heart goes out to all those close to the victim. The hard part is just beginning.
