COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS, Utah, July 25, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Crews from Unified Fire had their hands full Tuesday night, not only battling a stubborn house fire in Cottonwood Heights, but also enduring suffocating summer temperatures as they neared the 100 degree mark.

Fire broke out at a home 7148 S. Ponderosa Dr. (2040 East) around 7p.m. When firefighters arrived smoke and flames were pouring from the house.

7 residents who were inside the residence when the fire started made it out uninjured, but firefighters say the family’s cat may not have been as lucky.

Investigators believe the fire broke out in the back of the home and appears to have involved a propane tank.

Damage to the home was extensive and firefighters say the structure may be a total loss.

At least one firefighter appeared be overcome with the heat, but was treated at the scene by fellow firefighters.

Late Tuesday night firefighters were called back to the home after the blaze rekindled. Crews were expected to remain on scene throughout the night to knock down any hot spots.
