PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, July 17, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Two people are dead after a Wednesday morning house fire in Pleasant Grove.

Fire crews were first called to the home near 600 E. 100 North at 1:55 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they found smoke and flames coming from a back porch area of the residence.

Pleasant Grove Fire Chief Andrew Engemann told Gephardt Daily an elderly woman with severe injuries was taken from the house and rushed to the hospital, while a second person, described as a disabled man in his 50s, was found in the front part of the home.

“We got him out of the house and tried to revive him, but he was deceased at the scene,” Engemann said.

It was later learned the woman also had died from her injuries, and the victims were a mother and son.

Two pets also died in the early morning blaze.

Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s office and American Fork Fire Department were called in to help determine the cause of the fire, according to Engemann.

Updated reports indicate an electrical problem may have started the fire.

Crews from Lone Peak, Orem and American Fork joined in the firefighting efforts.

Gephardt Daily will have more details as information becomes available.
