SALTAIR, Utah, Aug. 19, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have identified a man found dead on westbound I-80 early Sunday morning after releasing a detailed description of the distinctive tattoos on his body.
“After the information on the tattoos was released, investigators received multiple calls and were able to identify the male,” said a news release from the Utah Highway Patrol. “We thank the public for their help and ask that no more calls be made into our dispatch center.”
The identity of the man will be released as soon as his family has been notified, officials added.
UHP troopers were called to I-80 just below the SR-202 overpass near Saltair about 3:35 a.m. When they arrived they found a deceased male lying in the road.
Investigators posted an online statement saying it appeared the man had fallen from the overpass and was struck by several by westbound vehicles, including a semi-truck which had returned to the scene.
Troopers said the dead man carried no identification and there were no witnesses to the actual fall from the overpass.
The body was transported to the Utah Office of the Medical Examiner, and a description of the man’s tattoos was released in the hope that someone would be able to help identify him.
The man has a large tattoo on his torso with the word “Freedom.” He has a tattoo on his right forearm, with the words “Live Free,” the Statue of Liberty on his left forearm, and another on his left arm with the words “Die Fighting.” He also has a tattoo of brass knuckles with wings and the word “Restless” on his chest.
The man was wearing faded gray jeans, a white T-shirt with a floral pattern, and white Nike high-top sneakers.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
