SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah, Nov. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials have located a man wanted for questioning after the death of a 52-year-old man under suspicious circumstances at a South Salt Lake apartment building Tuesday morning.
South Salt Lake Police Sgt. Gary Keller told Gephardt Daily the incident occurred inside an apartment in the area of 3401 S. 200 East at approximately 11:30 a.m.
Officials received a call reporting some type of altercation, and that one man was down, not breathing and unconscious. The man was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Keller added that the victim did not have any visible wounds so, though an initial report indicated that he was stabbed, police cannot confirm that. It’s not clear at this time who reported the incident to police.
Keller said a man and a woman were reportedly inside the victim’s apartment with the victim, and while the woman remained at the scene, the man left the area.
South Salt Lake said in a Wednesday afternoon news release: “Police have located the male that left the apartment where the suspicious death occurred yesterday. The male was identified as 36-year-old Mark Cordova (no residence listed). Mark Cordova was interviewed by police about the altercation that occurred in the apartment.”
Cordova is cooperating with the investigation, and was booked into the Salt lake County Jail on an unrelated drug charge.
The suspicious death case is still an active investigation and cause of death has not yet been determined, the news release said.
The woman has been questioned, and officials are working to establish what the relationship was between the three people.
Keller said Tuesday: “Right now we’re looking at a suspicious death, we’ve got a lot of varying information of what took place, there’s no indication. The coroner will give us more information.”
Due to not being able to contact next-of-kin who live out of state, police have not released the name of the victim. Keller said more information may be released over the weekend.
Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
RIP my friend you will be missed by some of us. You were a kind and caring person, karma will get them if nobody else does.
Yes, he truly will be and is missed. I think karma takes her own sweet time and prefer that justice be swift and harsh.
