SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 12, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A Utah Transit Authority police officer suffered a medical incident Sunday afternoon while pursuing a suspect on foot.

The officer attempted to approach a woman suspected of an undisclosed crime at the Central Point Station, 221 W. 2100 South, about 3 p.m., but she fled on foot, UTA spokesman Carl Arky said.

The officer pursued the woman but never made contact with her, Arky said. About a block from the station, the officer suffered a “medical incident” and collapsed in front of a business, he said.

First responders treated the officer at the scene and later transported him to a hospital, Arky said. His condition was not immediately available.

The woman was later taken into custody, Arky said.

The incident remains under investigation.

Gephardt Daily will update this story as more information becomes available.
