SPANISH FORK CANYON, Utah, July 29, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Manti man is dead after crashing an off-highway vehicle crash Friday night in Spanish Fork Canyon.
John Christopher Mulder, 43, died when the OHV he was driving rolled and he was ejected. An OHV is any wheeled motorized vehicle not designed for use on a highway and capable of travel on different types of terrains.
According to information from the Utah County Sheriff’s Office, the crash took place at Emma Park Road in the canyon. The exact location was four miles from Emma Park Road near U.S. Highway 6, in Spanish Fork Canyon.
First responders were dispatched at approximately 7:30 p.m. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office later released a prepared statement.
“Shortly after ambulance personnel made contact with the driver they determined he was deceased,” the news release said.
Mulder’s injuries were not obvious, so internal injuries are suspected. An adult male who was riding with Mulder sustained only minor injuries.
Witnesses reported that Mulder lost control of the OHV and it rolled off of the dirt road they were riding on. Evidence at the scene led investigators to believe alcohol might be a factor in this crash.
Mulder’s body was taken to the Office of Medical Examiner in Salt Lake. This investigation remains active.
