MILANO CORTINA, Italy, Feb. 8, 2026 (Gephardt Daily) — Park City, Utah, skier Lindsey Vonn took a fall 13 seconds into an Olympic downhill competition Sunday and was airlifted from the scene in a medical helicopter.
The U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team posted about the incident early Sunday, at 4:19 a.m. Mountain Time.
“Statement on Lindsey Vonn: Lindsey Vonn fell in the Olympic downhill and will be evaluated by medical staff.”
Vonn, 41, earned a gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. On Dec. 23 of last year, it was announced that Vonn had qualified for theĀ 2026 Winter Olympics, her fifth Olympic appearance, which she said would be her last.
On Feb. 3, Vonn confirmed she had ruptured her ACL, but said she intended to compete at the Olympics despite the injury.
Hours after her fall on Sunday, the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team posted, at 9:05 a.m. local time, that Vonn “sustained an injury, but is in stable condition and in good hands with a team of American and Italian physicians.”
Vonn’s teammate, Breezy Johnson, won the gold metal.
The U.S. Ski & Snowboard Team shared a post from Team USA, featuring a photo of Vonn, praising her as a legend whose legacy would live on.
