WEBER COUNTY, Utah, Dec. 1, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Search and Rescue crews in Weber County have a wardrobe suggestion for those heading out on winter hikes.
Wear or carry layers of clothing.
Weber County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue responded to a report last week of a lost hiker.
“An adult male started hiking/climbing from North Ogden and headed to Lewis Peak that afternoon,” the group’s social media post says.
“The male reached the top and tried to return to the North Ogden Divide trailhead. However, due to the fresh snow, the male could not locate the trail and ended up in a canyon near Nordic Valley Ski Resort.”
Crews responded and “quickly and located him with the drone,” the news release says. “We then sent personnel up to assist him by warming up and assisting him down to Nordic Valley’s parking lot.
“The male was extremely cold and in the early stages of hypothermia when we got to him. He was checked out by Weber Fire District and released at the scene.”
Which brings us to the wardrobe advice:
“We want to remind everyone who is recreating this time of year to wear or carry enough layers so that if they have to stay the night, they will be able to,” the post says.
“Even those hiking just for the day should make sure they have some survival gear with them, even when they don’t plan on using it.”
