WASHINGTON TERRACE, July 3, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Weber County man has been booked into jail after sheriff officials say they found him with more than 500 digital images and videos of children, ages infancy through age 12, in exploitative poses.
Jonathan Andrew McBride, 23, has been charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony.
According to a probable cause statement in the case, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a report from Dropbox, a file-hosting company that offers cloud storage.
Dropbox reported a user uploaded 41 digital files it interpreted to be exploitative.
After more investigation, officials were able to review the entire contents of the Dropbox account, which “showed 555 digital images/videos of indisputable child exploitation material/child pornography (pre-pubescent male and female children ages estimated from infant age to 12 years old,)” the probable cause statement says.
Ultimately, the files were traced back to McBride, and a search warrant was obtained for his residence. An electronic storage device was found to have more than 300 digital files containing evidence of child exploitation and child pornography, as confirmed by agents from the Utah Attorney General’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
McBride, who had waived his Miranda Rights, then stopped the interview and asked for an attorney.
