West Valley Police Chase Leads to Arrest

Suspect ChaseWEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH – March 25, 2015 – Gephardt Daily

Some anxious moments in West Valley City late Tuesday night after a man led police on a twenty minute chase.

West Valley Police Lt Kent Stokes told Gephardt Daily it all started around 10:30 p.m. when a patrolman came across a man in a stolen truck driving near 2700 South Redwood Road.

Officers tried to pull the truck over, but the driver refused to stop as he circled through west side neighborhoods.

Police say the man finally made a break for it, ultimately speeding down 4100 South Redwood at 8o mph before the chase was called off.

A short while later, a Utah Highway Patrol helicopter spotted the truck on Dean Drive near 4500 South and 4000 West. As West Valley and West Valley Police Officers closed in the driver abandoned the truck and tried to runaway.

The suspect, identified as Mikaele Afum, was ultimately taken into custody.

Police say he has an extensive criminal history, as well an outstanding warrant for alleged drug possession.
