WILLARD, Utah, April 18, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a group with a different approach — offering money to their victims before robbing them.

The Willard City Police Department has posted seven photos online of a crew and their vehicles who recently worked the parking lot of the Flying J truck stop, essentially the town’s commercial hub.

“We are searching for the vehicles and individuals in theses photos,” the department said. “We are attempting to gather information on a robbery and scam case that occurred April 16, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the Flying J.

“Willard City Police would like to speak to the individuals who own and drive the vehicles attached. If you know of any information or observed the vehicles or the individuals, please contact the Willard City Police Department through dispatch at 435-723-6890.”

It was reported to officers that the individuals approach people stating they had just won the lottery, according to the press release.

For whatever reasons, the perpetrators make offers, such as doubling the prospective victim’s money.

“Once you pull out your money one person will count the money and the other person will assault you. The individuals will then take off with your money.”

The department asks that people visiting gas stations be cautious of scammers in the parking lot and report anything suspicious by calling 911.
