SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 6, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A woman was rushed to the hospital in critical condition Saturday night after she was hit by a vehicle while crossing 700 East at 1830 South.
Salt Lake City Police Lt. Scott Smalley told Gephardt Daily the woman was not in a designated crosswalk, but two lanes of traffic had stopped to allow her to cross.
A driver in the third lane, however, couldn’t see the woman and was unaware that she was in the street. Smalley said she was thrown at least 20 feet by the impact.
The driver was not impaired, wasn’t speeding, and was cooperating with police, Smalley said. The accident happened at 9:24 p.m., and it’s likely that lighting was partly a factor.
The woman was stabilized at the hospital, but her injuries are severe and she will be facing a long recovery period, Smalley said.
