GUNNISON, Utah, Aug. 18, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A 69-year-old woman was flown to the hospital Friday afternoon after her Cadillac was hit by a garbage truck in Gunnison, officials said.

Charges are pending against the driver of the garbage truck, who has been named as Kevin Taylor, 50, from Ephraim, the Utah Highway Patrol said in a news release.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 p.m. when the Cadillac, driven by Marjorie Monnett from Spring City, was southbound on State Route 89 near milepost 250 and Gunnison Reservoir Road.

The garbage truck driven by Taylor was eastbound on Gunnison Reservoir Road, which is controlled by a stop sign, with traffic on SR-89 having the right of way.

Taylor did not stop at the sign or yield to traffic on SR-89, but proceeded directly into the Cadillac’s path, the news release said. The Cadillac impacted the garbage truck behind the rear axle, causing extensive damage.

Monnett suffered significant injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo in poor condition, though she is expected to survive.

Charges against Taylor are pending and Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information becomes available.
