SANTAQUIN, UTAH – October 28, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) A dangerously fast moving fire destroyed a wooden shed in Santaquin Tuesday night.
According to Santaquin Fire Department, dispatchers received a call on reports of a structure fire at 8:22 p.m. on Center street between 100 and 200 North. When crews arrived, the structure was fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from Santaquin, Payson and Genola Fire Departments were all called to assist. Fire officials said the work was slowed by magnesium found in engine blocks that were also burning; when water is added to burning magnesium it reacts violently.
In a statement on the Santaquin Fire Department Facebook, investigators said that due to massive fire damage the actual cause of the shed fire is still undetermined. They also said there was no evidence of criminal activity related to the fire and that it was likely caused from sparks after a metal cutting activity that occurred earlier in the evening and resulting embers ignited flammable products within the structure.
No homes were involved but the shed was a total loss.
