WASATCH COUNTY, Utah, Oct. 25, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Wasatch County‘s Yellow Lake Fire increased by only 186 acres overnight after days of more substantial gains.
Today’s acreage number is 31,193. In addition, the fire is now estimated at 29% contained, up from 23% Monday. Today’s numbers are 31,193 acres
Currently Utah’s largest wildfire, the Yellow Lake Fire was first reported on Sept. 28. Its cause remains unconfirmed.
“The most active part of the fire occurred in the northwest finger as burning snags continued to glow overnight,” says an update from the U.S. Forest Service, shared by Utah Fire Info.
“Jackbot fuels occasionally flared in the Iron Mine Lake area. Fire managers praised the Uintah-Wasatch-Cache National Forest on previously completed fuel thinning projects.”
“Water scooping airplanes and helicopters will continue operations today, dropping water to further cool the fire’s northern edge. Dozers are also reinforcing lines in the area in addition to hand crews.”
Crews assigned to the fire number 889. Previous evacuation orders remain in place, and Hanna residents are still urged to be packed and ready for evacuation if necessary.
