AZUSA, Calif., Nov. 8 (UPI) — One person was reportedly killed and three others were wounded in a shooting near two polling places in Los Angeles County on Tuesday, authorities said.
The shooting happened in a residential area in Azusa, which is located about 25 miles northeast of Los Angeles, around 2:30 p.m. local time.
“This is a very volatile and critical situation,” Azusa officer Jerry Willison told the Los Angeles Times.
Officials said responding officers were called to the scene and were “pinned down”by gunfire.
The Times reported that one person had been killed and three others wounded.
KTLA reported that a middle school in the area had been locked down.
Details of the shooting weren’t immediately clear, but authorities said they were dealing with a heavily-armed suspect. It wasn’t clear initially whether the gunman has been subdued.
Election officials urged voters in the area to seek other polling locations.
